The Process
Consultation
During your personalized consultation, your surgeon will:
- Discuss your aesthetic goals and expectations
- Perform a thorough breast examination
- Take measurements and evaluate your anatomy
- Review implant options (type, size, shape, profile)
- Use 3D imaging to preview potential results
- Explain the procedure, recovery, and any risks
The Procedure
-
Anesthesia — The procedure is performed under general anesthesia for your comfort and safety.
-
Incision — Your surgeon creates a discreet incision in the pre-determined location, chosen to minimize visible scarring.
-
Implant Placement — The implant is carefully positioned either behind the breast tissue (subglandular) or beneath the chest muscle (submuscular), depending on your anatomy and goals.
-
Closure — Incisions are closed with layered sutures for optimal healing and minimal scarring. The entire procedure typically takes 1-2 hours.
Recovery
- Day 1-3: Rest at home with prescribed pain medication. Wear your surgical support bra. Light arm movements are okay.
- Week 1-2: Most patients return to desk work. Continue wearing the support bra. Swelling and bruising begin to subside.
- Week 3-4: Gradually increase activity. Implants begin to settle into their natural position.
- Month 3-6: Final results become visible as implants fully settle (“drop and fluff”) and swelling completely resolves.

Common Questions
Frequently
Asked Questions
We believe informed patients make the best decisions. Here are answers to the most common questions about this procedure.
What types of breast implants are available?
We offer both silicone gel and saline implants in a variety of shapes (round and anatomical), profiles (low, moderate, high), and sizes. During your consultation, your surgeon will help you choose the implant that best matches your body type and aesthetic goals.
Where will the incision be placed?
Common incision locations include under the breast fold (inframammary), around the areola (periareolar), or in the armpit (transaxillary). Your surgeon will recommend the best option based on your anatomy and implant choice.
How long do breast implants last?
Modern breast implants are designed to be long-lasting, but they're not considered lifetime devices. Most patients can expect their implants to last 10-20 years. We recommend regular check-ups and monitoring, and replacement is only necessary if a complication arises.
Will I lose nipple sensation?
Most patients retain normal nipple sensation. Temporary changes in sensation are common immediately after surgery, but permanent loss of sensation is rare—occurring in less than 5% of cases.
Can I breastfeed after augmentation?
Most women can breastfeed successfully after breast augmentation, especially with inframammary or transaxillary incisions. The periareolar approach has a slightly higher risk of affecting milk ducts, but many women still breastfeed without issues.
What size implant should I choose?
During your consultation, we'll help you determine the ideal size using 3D imaging, sizers, and your surgeon's expert guidance. We consider your body frame, chest width, tissue thickness, and lifestyle to recommend sizes that look natural and proportionate.
When can I exercise after surgery?
Light walking is encouraged the day after surgery. Most patients return to non-strenuous work within a week. Upper body exercises and heavy lifting should be avoided for 4-6 weeks. Your surgeon will provide a personalized recovery timeline.
